Puttur, Feb 14: Black pepper, widely known as the "King of Spices," remains a primary source of income for many farmers in the region. However, the traditional manual process of cleaning and grading pepper is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and expensive.
Addressing this challenge, Keshava Amai, the founder of SRK Ladders in Puttur, has developed a modern and effective solution. His newly designed pepper cleaning machine is gaining significant attention in the agricultural sector for its efficiency.

High efficiency and quality grading Known for designing various agricultural tools, Keshava Amai’s latest invention is capable of cleaning large quantities of pepper in a very short duration. The machine has the capacity to process approximately four quintals of black pepper per hour.
A standout feature of the machine is its ability to automatically sort the pepper into 'First Quality' and 'Second Quality' grades. The first-quality grains maintain an excellent density of 540 to 560 grams per litre. Additionally, the system is designed to separate dust through a dedicated outlet, while larger debris is filtered out at the beginning of the process. The machine can clean 10 kg of pepper in just 100 seconds.
Versatile and user-friendly Speaking about the invention, Keshava Amai stated that the design is not limited to pepper alone; it can also be used to clean paddy and other food grains.
The machine is built for ease of use. A rotator system installed at the feeding point allows a single person to operate the entire unit without assistance.
Low power consumption The machine is equipped with a 1/4 HP motor and can be operated using a standard domestic power connection or even an inverter. Its low electricity consumption, combined with reduced labor requirements and high productivity, has made this machine a true boon for small and medium-scale farmers.
