Bantwal: Talented Siblings Shine in International Karate Championship

Bantwal, Mar 1: A brother-sister duo have brought laurels to their hometown by bagging the silver in the International Karate Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal, recently.

The young talents are Mokshit M Shetty, class VIII student of Gunashree English Medium High School, Siddakatte, and his sister Sahana M Shetty, class V student of Buruz English Medium School, Raza Nagar, near Irvattoor.

The two hope to secure gold in the International Karate Championship scheduled to be held in Kathmandu in May 2012.

They have a string of other achievements too. Mokshit bagged the district-level karate championship held in Moodbidri on November 12, 2011 and also bagged third place in the state-level seventh open karate championship held in Moodbidri on December 17 and December 18, 2011. 

He bagged second place in national-level open karate championship held in Kinnigoli, Mangalore, from January 6 to January 8, 2012.  He also bagged the first place in national-level sixth Western Open Karate Championship held in Bondel, Mangalore, on February 11 and February 12, 2012.

Sahana is a brilliant student who bagged first place in district level karate championship held in Moodbidri on November 12, 2011.  She bagged third place in state-level seventh open karate championship held in Moodbidri from December 17 to December 18 2011 and second place in national level open karate championship held in Kinnigoli, Mangalore, from January 6 to January 8, 2012. She is also a Bharatanatyam dancer and topper in the state-level general knowledge exam and international ABACUS.

Mokshit and Sahana are the children of contractor N Mohan and Harinakshi M Shetty, resident of Narvaldadka in Mudupadukodi village.

Moodbidri karate trainers Nadeem and Sarfaraz are training both Mokshit and Sahana along with their school physical training instructors.

Local social welfare and voluntary organizations have already honoured both Mokshit and Sahana for their sports talent.
