Beltangady: Pet dog attacks MESCOM meter reader at Punjalkatte; injured admitted to hospital

Beltangady, Feb 18: A MESCOM meter reader was injured after a pet dog allegedly attacked and bit him while on duty at Kaithrody Quarters under Rayee Gram Panchayat limits on February 16.

The injured has been identified as Sampath, a resident of Moolur Ira, who has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

According to sources, Sampath was working as a supervisor on contract basis with Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) under the Bantwal division and was assigned meter reading work in the Kaithrody area.

After completing meter reading at a house, Sampath was reportedly walking towards his motorcycle parked on the main road when a pet dog from the house premises suddenly attacked him. In an attempt to escape, he ran for safety, but the dog bit him before local residents intervened and drove the animal away.

He sustained injuries to his right hand and leg. He was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where he underwent a surgical procedure, sources said.
