Special POCSO court rejects bail plea of Thivim man accused of raping 80-year-old woman

Panaji, Feb 18: A Special POCSO Court has dismissed the bail application of a man from Thivim who was arrested by the Colvale Police Station in June 2025 for allegedly raping an 80-year-old woman on multiple occasions.

While rejecting the plea, the Special Court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act observed that the offence was “extremely heinous as it is committed against the helpless senior citizen lady who lived alone,” highlighting the seriousness of the allegations.

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly exploited the advanced age and vulnerable condition of the victim to repeatedly commit the offence. The court noted that given the gravity of the charges and the impact on the elderly woman, the accused was not entitled to the discretionary relief of bail at this stage.

The accused continues to remain in judicial custody as further proceedings in the case are underway.
