Udupi, Feb 18: Manipal Universal Press (MUP), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal released its 315th publication titled ‘Pu Shri Sanskriti Sampada’ an anthology of writings by Pu Shrinivasa Bhat, at Nuthana Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College Udupi on February 18.
The book, edited by Dr Prabhakar Joshy and Pu Guruprasad Bhat, was formally released by renowned Kannada scholar Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat in the presence of distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat said that the book serves as a comprehensive resource for students. “Pu Shrinivasa Bhat stands as a great example of how a primary school principal can inspire minds and contribute significantly to research. Today, research is supported by organisations with modern facilities and financial backing. However, earlier scholars conducted in-depth research without such support and laid a strong foundation for future generations. Every page of this book carries engaging and valuable content,” he noted.
Chief priest of Shri Kshetra Kateel, Vedamurthy Sri Lakshminarayana Asranna, said that Shrinivasa Bhat devoted his earnings towards criticism and research. “Though he did not earn a doctorate, his work surpasses that of many who have. Born and brought up in a village without support, he researched rural culture extensively and explained the background and significance of traditional practices,” he said.
Editor Dr Prabhakar Joshy described Pu Shrinivasa Bhat as a unique writer. “It is a proud moment for me that this book has been made possible through our 50-year-long association. He is truly a barefoot researcher who pursued knowledge driven purely by interest, without formal degrees,” he remarked.
Professor Vanitha Maiya, principal of MGM College, shared her views on the significance of the publication. In his introductory note, co-editor Pu Guruprasad Bhat provided insights into the book’s content and compilation process.
Dr Srinivas Acharya welcomed the gathering, while Prathima Poojary compered the programme. Shravya Basri presented a musical recital based on the book.
The ceremony was followed by a discussion session led by Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat and Dr Prabhakar Joshy.
Students of MGM Degree College and other invitees were present on the occasion.
