Swift action by Konkan Railway staff foils theft on 11004 Tutari Express; accused handed over to RPF

Mumbai, Feb 19: The alertness and prompt action of railway staff helped foil a theft onboard Train No. 11004 Tutari Express in the early hours of February 16.

According to officials of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, the incident occurred at around 4.30 am after the train crossed Roha station. During ticket checking in coaches S2, S3, and S4, Sachin Savekar, TTE from Ratnagiri, noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously in coach S2.

Acting swiftly on his suspicion and with the support of vigilant co-passengers, the duo was apprehended and separated for further inquiry. Upon questioning, it was revealed that the accused had allegedly stolen a handbag belonging to a female passenger.

On verification, the stolen items consisting of one Mangalasutra, two sets of earrings, cash amounting to Rs 4,750, and one mobile phone were recovered.

However, one ring reported missing by the passenger could not be recovered.

The accused were later handed over to the Railway Protection Force at Panvel for further legal action.

Appreciating the vigilance and presence of mind displayed by the staff in ensuring passenger safety, Santosh Kumar Jha, chairman and managing director of KRCL, sanctioned a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to Sachin Savekar for his commendable service.
