Udupi, Feb 19: Kasturba Hospital in Manipal marked International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) with a heartfelt celebration, uniting children battling cancer, their caregivers, and cancer survivors to raise awareness and show support for these brave individuals. The event was part of a three-year campaign (2024-2026) under the theme, 'Inspiring Action'.

The event featured an entertainment program designed to uplift the spirits of children undergoing treatment and their families. Esteemed guests, including Dr Anil K Bhat, dean of KMC Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Dr Suba Sooriya, Nursing Superintendent of the hospital, along with Arjun Bhandarkar founder of Save Life Charitable Trust and Dr Nishanth B Bhat, president of Lions Clubs, Manipal.

Dr Anil K Bhat expressed his unwavering support for the event, emphasizing the critical role of community involvement in the fight against childhood cancer. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in providing comprehensive care and ensuring that every child receives the treatment they deserve.

Dr Avinash Shetty underscored the hospital's commitment to delivering exceptional care for paediatric cancer patients by providing necessary infrastructure requirement.

Dr Vasudeva Bhat K, head of paediatric oncology at Kasturba Hospital, emphasised that childhood cancer is curable provided it is detected early and treated by the right team at the right time. Together with the hospital staff, they ensured the day was filled with joy, bringing smiles to the faces of these courageous young patients and their families. Chaitra and Farhana, young survivors post bone marrow transplant were the master of ceremony.

The event at Kasturba Hospital was a shining example of the institution's unwavering commitment to spreading hope and happiness to children facing cancer. It serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting these young warriors in their fight against childhood cancer.
