Kaup: Elderly woman robbed of gold chain by youths posing as tenants

Kaup, Feb 21: A group of three youths allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 70-year-old woman after approaching her house on the pretext of inquiring about a house for rent in Shankerpura, Shirva.

The victim has been identified as Helen D’Souza (70). The incident occurred around 10 am when she was at home. According to the complaint, the three youths arrived on a motorcycle and enquired about houses available for rent in the neighbourhood.

The accused reportedly asked about nearby houses and then requested the woman’s mobile number. While she was noting it down, one of the youths suddenly snatched the gold chain weighing approximately three sovereigns (around 3 pavan) from her neck and jumped over the compound wall. The other two accomplices joined him, and the trio fled the spot on their motorcycle.

The Shirva police rushed to the scene and are investigating the case. CCTV footage of the incident has been secured, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.
