Dubai, Feb 21: As the holy month of Ramadan begins, the United Arab Emirates has announced the nationwide release of 1,440 inmates from correctional facilities, following a directive from President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The decision also includes the settlement of financial penalties linked to their sentences.
The initiative, aimed at giving inmates a chance to start anew while alleviating the burdens on their families during Ramadan, is part of a longstanding tradition of prisoner releases on special ocasions and religious holidays.

In the emirate of Ajman, Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi ordered the release of 134 inmates from correctional and penal institutions. Similarly, in Fujairah, Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi directed the release of 125 prisoners of various nationalities, selected based on good conduct and behaviour.
The move underscores the UAE leadership’s commitment to promoting social stability, mercy, and rehabilitation during the holy month.
