Mangaluru: 8-year-old girl dies after choking on ludo plastic coin in Kolya

Mangaluru, Feb 22: In a tragic incident reported from Kolya near Thokkottu, an eight-year-old girl died of suffocation after accidentally swallowing a cone-shaped plastic coin used in a ludo board game while playing at home with her siblings on February 21 afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Tanushka (8), the second daughter of Rajesh Gatti and Rajeshwari, originally residents of Madhur Uliyathadka in Kasargod district.

Tanushka’s mother, who works as a teacher at a school in Ullal, had shifted with her family to a rented house in Kolya to stay closer to her workplace. As there was a school holiday on Saturday afternoon, Tanushka was playing ludo with her elder brother and younger sibling at home. During the game, she accidentally swallowed a plastic Ludo coin and suddenly began to choke, turning critical.

A panic-stricken mother, with the help of neighbours, rushed the child to a private hospital in Thokkottu for treatment. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Deralakatte for advanced treatment, where doctors declared her brought dead.

During the post-mortem examination, a plastic cone-shaped toy was found lodged in her lungs.

Tanushka was a bright second standard student of St Sebastian High School, Thokkottu. Her sudden demise left her parents and the entire family in deep shock, and they were admitted to the hospital following the incident.
