Kasargod: Young woman ends life following theft accusation

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod

Kasargod, Feb 22: A 24-year-old woman, reportedly distressed over allegations of gold ornament theft and subsequent harassment, ended her life at Neltadka near Adoor. Her family has alleged that mental torture by neighbours and the police drove her to take the extreme step.

The deceased has been identified as Jaseela (24), a resident of Neltadka and a mother of two. Jaseela had consumed poison last Sunday and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kasargod, where she breathed her last on February 21.

According to the family, a young man from near her husband’s house and his family members had accused Jaseela of stealing gold.

Following this, she was reportedly subjected to continuous harassment. It is alleged that the police took her to the station and mentally harassed her in the name of interrogation.

Allegations of social media defamation

The family further claimed that false information and propaganda were spread against Jaseela on social media platforms, which left her mentally devastated. Before consuming poison, she had reportedly recorded a video stating that she was innocent of the charges.

Although the Adoor police had interrogated her regarding the theft, they had released her after failing to find any clues or evidence linking her to the crime. Distraught by the tarnished reputation and the pressure of the investigation, she chose to end her life.

The Adoor police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the matter.
