Mangaluru: Fish worker from Tamil Nadu crushed to death at Bunder as light pole snaps suddenly

Mangaluru, Feb 22: A 35-year-old fish worker from Tamil Nadu was crushed to death after a roadside light pole suddenly snapped at its base and fell on him at Bunder in the city on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Murugan, a native of Tamil Nadu, who was employed as a fish labourer in Mangaluru.

According to local sources, the tragic incident occurred in the morning when Murugan was carrying a box of fish in the busy Bunder area. The light pole reportedly broke off from its base without any warning and came crashing down, striking him directly. The impact left him critically injured.

Bystanders and fellow workers immediately rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries before doctors could save him.

Witnesses said the pole “suddenly gave way and collapsed”, leaving the victim with no time to react.
