Mapusa, Feb 23: A 35-year-old woman police personnel attached to the Detention Centre in Mapusa was declared brought dead at the North Goa District Hospital in the early hours of Sunday after she reportedly complained of giddiness near Tivim railway station.

The deceased has been identified as Sarika Naik (35), a resident of Guirim. She was serving as a Lady Assistant Sub-Inspector at the Mapusa Detention Centre, police said.

According to preliminary inquiry, Naik had travelled to Mumbai along with other staff members on deportation duty to escort a Nigerian national. After completing the formalities, the team returned to Goa by train on February 21 and alighted at Tivim railway station.

Police said the staff hired a taxi to proceed to their office after getting down at the station. However, upon reaching the junction bus stop near the railway station, Naik reportedly complained of giddiness and uneasiness.

The accompanying staff immediately shifted her to the North Goa District Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her brought dead.

An Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Colvale Police Station visited the hospital casualty ward and conducted an inquest panchanama. The body was later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital for preservation.

Police said the exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination report is received.
