Margao, Feb 24: Fresh reports from Goa have indicated that banned ‘Dhirio’ bullfights are allegedly being conducted in the Seraulim belt of the Benaulim constituency, raising serious concerns over enforcement of the law.

According to local sources, multiple bullfighting competitions — at times three to four in a single day — are reportedly taking place in the area. The events are also said to involve high-value betting, drawing sizeable crowds and wagering activity.

A recent contest between bulls named Rolex and Pakalo, reportedly held on Tuesday morning, is believed to have attracted significant attention. Residents claim that such events are being organised openly despite the official ban in place.

The reported continuation of these bullfights has sparked concern among members of the local community, who questioned the apparent lack of effective police intervention. They warned that allowing such activities to persist could normalise illegal betting practices and gradually weaken public respect for the rule of law.

Several locals have urged authorities to intensify monitoring in the region and initiate swift action against those allegedly organising and promoting the events. They stressed that strict enforcement is necessary to prevent further violations.

The controversy has once again reignited the long-standing debate in Goa over cultural traditions versus legal prohibitions, with many calling for clarity and firm implementation of existing regulations.
