Mangaluru, Feb 25: The Karnataka Public Works Department (PWD) will conduct a comprehensive traffic survey on state highways and major district roads starting from 6 am on February 26.

The survey, which aims to assess the volume and patterns of vehicular movement across the state, will conclude at 6 am on February 28, spanning a total of two days.

139 census centres in Dakshina Kannada

In Dakshina Kannada district alone, the PWD has identified and set up approximately 139 census centres at strategic points along state highways and major district roads. These centres will serve as the primary locations for data collection during the 48-hour period.

The executive engineer of the PWD Mangaluru division has issued a statement requesting the full cooperation of vehicle drivers and the general public. The data collected from this survey is essential for future road planning, maintenance, and infrastructure development across the district and state.

The department has urged commuters to support the personnel stationed at the census points to ensure the exercise is completed successfully and accurately.

Major traffic disruption cases 1) No official bus stand for parking, yet about 3-10 buses park at Old Kankanady Market in parallel parking form and cause obstruction for traffic movement. Max 5 Buses angle parking provisions to be made with parking meter to select timeline for parking and penalty applied for over stopping. 2) Kankanady Junction (In front of Hollywood Bar) - Currently due to diversion, bus that are not provisioned to stop at kanakandy stopping in middle of road to board and unboard causing excess traffic. This need to be stopped and any such busses stopping charge penalty. - Flyover to directly divert Old kankandy bypass road to mother Theresa road, this will lower the traffic by lot. 3) Bendoorwell junction - Rickshaw stopping near bus stand reducing space for movement of traffic vehicles. - Cars blocking in front of Essel Wilcon building for shopping / Radha medical purchase and dinner visits to restaurant, major blockage reasons. 4) Hampankatta Previous right side (Jyoti to Hampankatta stretch) no vehicles were allowed to park allowed smooth traffic flow, unfortunately car owners park here and cause block, no action by traffic control. Specified bike parking areas, card are parking and eating spaces due to poor parking skills of 4/3 wheel vehicles. Cars mainly blocking by parking on road apart from parking space, causing block. Above are few of many with critical sections sharing. Kindly focus and have clear planning with proper sign boards and cameras to capture and implement fines.
