Mangaluru, Feb 26: The Pandeshwar police have arrested a father and his son on charges of moral policing and assaulting a student. The arrested individuals have been identified as Steven Monteiro and his son, Avil.

The incident occurred at Gramasangha near Babugudde in the city, where the accused reportedly confronted a male student who was conversing with a female classmate. The duo allegedly used casteist slurs against the student and thrashed him brutally. As a video clip of the assault began circulating on social media, a case was registered at the Mangaluru South police station, and a manhunt was launched to nab the culprits.

According to the complaint, on February 23, two students from a prestigious educational institution in the city were talking near the railway tracks at Babugudde when the accused approached them and initiated an assault while hurling caste-based insults.

The accused reportedly threatened the minor students, claiming, "We have a video of you kissing; we will leak it on Facebook and ruin your reputation." While one of the accused physically assaulted the student and forced him to apologise, the other accused recorded the entire ordeal on his mobile phone.

The police are investigating the matter further to check for the involvement of any other individuals in the case.

No one has the right to assault anyone. Here a minor has been assaulted. When parents themselves dont hit their own children, an outsider doesn't have that authority. Stringent sections like POCSO must be added to the case so that this father son duo suffer a lot for causing lifelong trauma to this minor.
