Mangaluru, Feb 26: A new era in the city's public transport system began on Thursday, February 26, as the first private electric bus was officially flagged off during a ceremony held at Pala Maar Garden, Morgan’s Gate.
This air-conditioned electric bus will operate on 'Route Number 27,' a key circuit within the city limits. This initiative marks a historic milestone in the private transport sector of Mangaluru, introducing sustainable and eco-friendly mobility to daily commuters.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath inaugurated the service and extended his best wishes to the operators. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of transitioning to green energy to reduce the carbon footprint in urban areas.
Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Kishore Kumar, bus owner Dilraj Alva, president of the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners' Association Aziz Parthipady, and other office bearers were present at the event.
The introduction of this e-bus is expected to pave the way for more private operators to adopt electric vehicles, furthering the goal of a cleaner and quieter Mangaluru.
