Dubai, Feb 28: New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and Bangladesh batter Sobhana Mostary have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month respectively, following their standout performances in international cricket.

Mitchell secured the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for November 2022, edging out India’s Suryakumar Yadav and England’s Joe Root, who were also nominated.

The New Zealand star played a pivotal role during his side’s ODI series in India. After falling 0-1 behind in the three-match contest, Mitchell produced two consecutive centuries to turn the series around. He remained unbeaten on 131 in the second ODI and followed it up with a commanding 137 in the decider, powering New Zealand to 337/8 and sealing a 2-1 series victory.

Mitchell finished the ODI leg with 352 runs, earning the Player of the Series award and reclaiming the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. He continued his rich form in the subsequent T20I series, amassing 125 runs across five matches at a blistering strike rate of 186.56.

On the women’s side, Mostary was recognised for her prolific run at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, where she played a crucial role in guiding Bangladesh to an unbeaten campaign.

Across her first six matches of the tournament, Mostary accumulated 229 runs at an impressive average of 45.80 and a strike rate of 145.85. Her consistency and aggressive strokeplay distinguished her from fellow nominees Gaby Lewis of Ireland and Tara Norris.

The awards highlight the impact both players had on the international stage, delivering match-winning performances and elevating their teams in crucial competitions.
