Kundapur, Feb 28: A private bus travelling from Kundapur to Shivamogga caught fire suddenly on Saturday afternoon, triggering panic but causing no casualties.

The incident occurred on the main road near the Hulikal–Balebare Ghat stretch. The fire was first noticed in the front portion of the bus as it was proceeding towards Shivamogga.

More than 35 passengers were on board at the time.

Acting swiftly, the driver and conductor pulled the vehicle to the roadside and safely evacuated all passengers. Their timely response helped avert a major tragedy, and no injuries or loss of life were reported.

Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly and engulfed the entire bus, reducing it to ashes. Local residents and passengers alerted Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who arrived promptly and brought the blaze under control.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is under way.
