Pilerne, Mar 1: An elderly woman sustained minor burns after a fire broke out in an apartment in Pilerne on Sunday morning. She was admitted to Goa Medical College for further treatment. No casualties were reported.

According to the fire officer at the Pilerne fire station, a call was received at around 7.30 am and a fire tender reached the spot within five to seven minutes. However, by the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already been contained.

“The neighbours or the people in the house must have contained the fire before we reached the destination,” the officer said.

The elderly woman was staying with her granddaughter, who was asleep in an adjacent room when the incident occurred.

Preliminary information indicates that an air cooler in the kitchen burst, triggering the fire. A plastic utensil caught fire and the flames quickly spread to the living room, destroying a television set.

The exact extent of the loss is yet to be assessed. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
