Mangaluru, Mar 1: Surathkal police have arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to sell the prohibited drug MDMA near the Mukka weighing bridge.
The arrested persons have been identified as Zakariya (38), a resident of Mazoor Kombugudde in Kaup, Udupi district, and Mithun Poojary (23) from Abbanukudru, Tenkabettu in Santhekatte Ulloor village.

Based on credible information that Zakariya was arriving to sell MDMA, the Surathkal police reached the Mukka weighing bridge at around 4:15 pm on February 27. Upon arrival, the police noticed two cars parked side-by-side. During questioning, the duo confessed that they had come to sell the synthetic drug to college students and the general public in the Surathkal area.
During the search, the police recovered 18.42 grams of MDMA from Zakariya and 36.18 grams from Mithun Poojary. The total 54.6 grams of seized MDMA is valued at Rs 5.41 lac. Additionally, the police seized two cars worth Rs 13 lac, two mobile phones valued at Rs 20,000, and Rs 11,700 in cash. The total value of the seized assets amounts to Rs 18,72,700. A case has been registered at the Surathkal police station under the NDPS Act.
Five cases against Zakariya
Police officials stated that Zakariya is a habitual offender with five cases already registered against him. These include an assault case at Bajpe station (2009), an assault case at Mulki station (2020), an assault on a woman (2022), a kidnapping case in Udupi city (2021), and another assault case at Padubidri station (2022).
