Mumbai, Mar 1: A major fire broke out at a hotel in South Mumbai shortly after midnight on Sunday, prompting a swift response from emergency services. No injuries were reported, officials confirmed.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, a Level-1 fire erupted at around 12.57 am at Hotel Babel located on Walchand Hirachand Road in the Fort area, opposite the General Post Office (GPO). The blaze was officially declared a Level-1 incident at 12.58 am, indicating a minor but controlled fire.

Officials said the fire was initially confined to the first and second floors of the ground-plus-two-storey building. It later spread to cover nearly 2,000 square feet, including portions of the terrace.
The flames damaged electrical wiring and installations, along with wooden furniture, mattresses and scrap materials inside the premises.
Firefighting operations were undertaken by the Mumbai Fire Brigade with assistance from local police, BEST electricity personnel, 108 ambulance services and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ward staff. Multiple fire engines were pressed into service to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.
Authorities said the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished by 2.25 am. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the origin of the blaze.
