New Delhi, Mar 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) late Sunday night after returning to the national capital, government sources said.
The high-level review comes as tensions intensify in West Asia following coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, triggering fears of a wider regional conflict and significant global repercussions.
According to sources, the Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Delhi around 9:30 pm after wrapping up a two-day visit to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. During the tour, he inaugurated major infrastructure and development projects and flagged off new rail services, including Amrit Bharat Express trains linking key southern cities.

“The Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the CCS upon his return to Delhi tonight,” a government source confirmed.
The CCS, India’s highest decision-making body on matters of national security, comprises the Prime Minister along with the Ministers of Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs and Finance. The urgent meeting is being viewed as a response to the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East, including retaliatory actions following the strikes on Iranian targets and reports of the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Discussions are expected to focus on safeguarding India’s strategic interests, including the security of Indian nationals in the Gulf region, particularly in the UAE and neighbouring countries, as well as implications for energy supplies, maritime trade routes and diplomatic engagement.
Sources indicated that contingency planning — including possible evacuation measures, monitoring of oil price volatility and coordination with international partners — may also be reviewed.
India has so far maintained a calibrated position, calling for de-escalation while prioritising the safety of its citizens and protecting economic and strategic interests.
The Prime Minister’s decision to immediately convene the CCS underscores the government’s close monitoring of the unfolding crisis and its readiness to respond to any emerging challenges.
