Bihar bus accident in Supaul district leaves passengers injured

Daijiworld Media Network - Patna

Patna, Mar 2: A bus traveling from Patna to Jogbani veered off the road and plunged into a 20-foot-deep roadside ditch near Chikni village in Supaul at around 3 a.m. on Monday. Over 70 passengers were on board, and while most escaped unharmed, six women sustained minor injuries. The injured were provided first aid and are reported to be out of danger.

Eyewitnesses stated that the driver likely fell asleep, causing the vehicle to lose control. The bus narrowly avoided colliding with a nearby 11,000-volt power pole, averting a potentially major disaster. Panic erupted among passengers, most of whom were asleep at the time, and local villagers helped rescue those trapped by breaking the front windshield.

Police from Bhaptiyahi Police Station arrived at the scene to manage the situation. After receiving medical attention, injured passengers were sent to their destinations on other buses. Local residents highlighted that long-distance buses often operate with a single driver, leading to fatigue-related risks. Experts recommend deploying at least two drivers on long routes to ensure safer travel.

This accident follows another tragic incident on Sunday on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway (NH-19) in Kaimur
