Puttur: Police arrest 19-year-old for threatening man with pistol near mall

Puttur, Mar 4: The Puttur city police have arrested a 19-year-old youth in connection with an incident where he allegedly threatened a car driver with a pistol and attempted to open fire near Reliance Mall on March 2.

The arrested accused has been identified as Muhammad Shafiq (19), a resident of Puttur.

According to the complaint filed by Abdul Hakeem (42), a resident of Kemminje, the incident occurred on the afternoon of March 2. While Hakeem was driving from Puttur toward Kurnadka, an unidentified man, riding a two-wheeler without a helmet, intercepted him near Reliance Mall.

The assailant allegedly brandished a pistol at Hakeem and attempted to fire, causing panic. When Hakeem and several onlookers tried to apprehend the suspect, he managed to flee the spot on his motorcycle.

Following the complaint, the Puttur city police registered a case under crime number 26/2026. The charges include section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with sections 3, 25, and 27 of the Arms Act 1959.

During the investigation, the police successfully traced and took Muhammad Shafiq into custody. He is currently being interrogated regarding the source of the weapon and the motive behind the threat. The accused will be produced before the court following the completion of the preliminary investigation.
