Mangaluru, Mar 5: The inauguration of the RR Maths Foundation Math Lab was held at St Aloysius College Higher Primary School in a meaningful and inspiring ceremony. The Math Lab was generously inaugurated by distinguished alumni Commodore Cyril David Pereira and his brother Valerian Joseph Pereira, in loving memory of their beloved parents, the late Rosie Susanna Pereira and the late Rosario Joseph Pereira.
The event was graced by the presence of rector Fr Melwyn Pinto SJ, correspondent Fr Johnson Pinto SJ, headmistress Jositta Noronha, assistant headmaster Liya D’Souza, PTA vice president Mohd Iqbal, Rohith Karkada (alumnus) the mentor, Tanya D Silva the teacher in charge, staff members and students.




































The programme commenced with a prayer song, invoking God’s blessings on the new initiative. This was followed by a warm welcome address by Celestine Vas, who greeted the dignitaries and appreciated the noble gesture of the alumni for contributing towards the academic growth of the school. She highlighted that such generous initiatives strengthen the bond between the institution and its alumni and inspire students to aim higher.
In his address, rector Fr Melwyn Pinto SJ expressed his concern about the fear many students experience towards Mathematics. He emphasized that innovative learning spaces like the Math Lab would help students understand concepts through practical learning, thereby making Mathematics more engaging, interactive and enjoyable. He also stressed the importance of experiential learning and mentioned that hands-on activities, models and visual aids available in the lab would enhance logical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
The donors of this memorial fund, Commodore Cyril David Pereira and Valerian Joseph Pereira, shared a few heartfelt words, expressing their gratitude to the institution for shaping their lives and values. They stated that dedicating this Endowment Fund in memory of their parents was a humble tribute to the strong foundation they had received at home and in school. They encouraged students to overcome their fear of Mathematics and develop confidence and curiosity towards the subject.
As part of the RR Maths Foundation initiative, 10 students have been selected initially to benefit from the programme. The foundation aims to provide additional academic support and promote excellence in Mathematics through this Fund
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the donors, the management, staff and all those who contributed to making the event a success.
The inauguration of the RR Maths Foundation, marks a significant step towards promoting quality education and nurturing young minds to develop a lasting love for Mathematics.
