Mangaluru, Mar 5: The department of conservative dentistry and endodontics at AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), celebrated CONSENDO Day in association with the Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (IACDE) at the Avishkar Auditorium of the institution on the March 4.
The programme began with an invocation prayer, followed by a short role play presented by the first year BDS students highlighting the importance of preserving natural teeth and spreading awareness about preventive dental care. Followed by a video showcasing the highlights of the various competitions conducted as part of the CONSENDO Day celebrations was also screened.


The formal proceedings commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, after which the dignitaries were invited onto the stage. The gathering was welcomed by Dr Shruthi Attavar from the department of conservative dentistry and endodontics.
This was followed by an address by Dr Upasana Reddy, who highlighted the significance of CONSENDO Day and the various activities conducted by the department to create awareness about conservative dentistry and endodontics. The winners of the competitions conducted during the month-long celebrations were also felicitated during the programme.
The event also marked the inauguration of a certificate course in advanced endodontics, which was formally launched by the chief guest overlooked by Dr Chitharanjan in the presence of students and faculty members.
The chief guest, Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, vice chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of the department in promoting awareness about preventive and conservative dental care. The programme was presided over by Prof (Dr) Mithra N Hegde, principal of ABSMIDS and president of IACDE, who delivered the presidential address highlighting the importance of preserving natural teeth and advancing endodontic education.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof (Dr) Aditya Shetty, head of the department of conservative dentistry and endodontics.
The CONSENDO Day celebrations also included a month-long series of academic and awareness activities such as quiz competitions, poster presentations, reel competitions, oral health screening, and patient education programmes, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 250 students and interns.
