Mangaluru: Theft at forest officer’s rented house; gold, cash, bike stolen

Mangaluru, Mar 6: A theft has been reported at the rented house of a forest officer located at Kapikadu on Ambika Road within Ullal police station limits, where 181 grams of gold, Rs 10.5 lac in cash, and a bike were stolen. The theft at the rented house where Kotekaru sub-range forest officer Mehboob Saab Gudihole was residing came to light on Thursday.

Mehboob Saab had been living in the rented house at Kapikadu for the past six months along with his wife Farzana Mehboob and their infant child. On Wednesday afternoon, Mehboob had travelled to Koppal with his family. When they returned at around 9 am on Thursday, they discovered that the house had been burgled.

The thieves who entered the house searched the cupboards in the hall and two rooms and stole 181 grams of gold kept in the lockers, the child’s silver ornaments, and Rs 10.5 lac in cash that Mehboob had borrowed as a loan from a bank. Ullal police, a dog squad and fingerprint experts visited the spot and conducted an inspection. There are no CCTV cameras near the house where the theft occurred. A theft had taken place near the same house a few years ago.
