Maharashtra to relocate 50 leopards to Gujarat for conservation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 6: The Maharashtra government has decided to transfer 50 leopards to the Reliance Foundation’s Vantara Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, officials said on Friday.

Sources close to State Forest Minister Ganesh Naik said the move aims to bolster conservation efforts while addressing the rise in human-leopard interactions in parts of Maharashtra. The plan was finalised following discussions between Minister Naik and the Vantara management.

Details regarding the timeline and procedures for the relocation will be coordinated between the Maharashtra Forest Department and the Gujarat facility.

The decision comes in the wake of a series of leopard attacks reported in Maharashtra during November and December 2025.
