Bangalore: Four Lawyers Arrested for Attack on Journos, Media Rejects Probe

Bangalore, Mar 3 (PTI): Facing heat from the media over its 'inaction', police today arrested four advocates in connection with attack on media personnel by a section of lawyers during the mayhem that rocked the city civil court.

The arrests came after the media in the state rejected the judicial probe into yesterday's attack as an "eyewash" and demanded that the guilty advocates be brought to book immediately.

Special police squads set up by the police nabbed advocates Ranganath, Somesh, Arun Naik and Santosh, Police Commissioner B G Jyoti Prakash Mirji told reporters here as media stepped up pressure meeting Governor H R Bhardwaj and Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda demanding action.

Mirji said 31 cases of rioting and assault had been registered in connection with the unprovoked attack on the journalists, OB vans and police that left at least 20 persons injured and evoked widespread condemnation.

Police also registered a complaint of assault and robbery filed by the driver of Karnataka High Court Judge K L Manjunath. Driver, M S Jagadeeshaiah, said in his complaint that some advocates beat him when he came to the court complex to drop the Judge and robbed him of a gold chain and a cash of Rs 1,900.

Courts here remained closed today while prohibitory orders were in force around city civil court complex which witnessed violence when lawyers created ruckus before turning violent protesting presence of media persons to cover the appearance of former minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy in the CBI court in connection with an illegal mining case.

"It was an intelligence failure. Police should have taken precautions," Bhardwaj told a delegation of media persons, which submitted a memorandum to him seeking his intervention to direct the government to initiate action against culprits.

A delegation of private TV news channels met the chief minister and sought immediate action against the guilty. "We don't accept judicial probe into the incident. This is nothing but an eyewash. The government is trying to evade from its responsibilities," Suvarna News Head Vishweshwar Bhatt told reporters after meeting Gowda.

Rejecting media apprehensions over judicial probe ordered into the incident, Gowda said it was not an attempt to cover up any lapse, but to come out with a permanent solution to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

He said police have been instructed to take stern action and file criminal charges against the culprits. Bangalore Reporters Guild and print and electronic media took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking arrest of lawyers involved in the attack.

We advocates don't have a separate news channel to telecast our videos. This medias are bluffing people by playing the videos which favour's them. Our 50 advs have been attacked, they started the quarrel, they blocked all the ways, trust me,they have burnt the advs cars n bikes,n removed overnight all burnt bikes so that v cnt claim through insurance. All the story started when they hit senior advocate in court premises, when they started entering court premises.

Public are relying on the news which they are telecasting on the channels, but v r helpless, our complaints are not received in stations. There are seven floors in city civil court comples,n they have blocked almost all the ways to shoot Mr.Janardhan Reddy, which has obstructed day to day business of the advocates and courts. This will not be telecasted by media as it affects their reputation. Its unfair, injustice which has caused even to advocates,i openly confess even there is mistake from the learned advocates by taking law into their hand. But viewers trust me, even they attacked Judicial officers, when they try to intervene and solve the issues,so the media people also provoked to attack against them.

Many facts emerge from the Fridays incident in the Civil court - 1) Lawyers had preplanned to attack journalist and police with assault material collected and stocked in advance 2) Police had advance knowledge about the violence likely to happen but were prevented from acting 3) BJP govt was scared to give permission to pre-empt the violence by lawyers and even after the violence, the govt is reluctant to arrest the culprits fearing Deva Gowda 4) The involvement of some political parties like JD(s), BJP is roumered 5) The utterance of some sitting judges seem to encourage the violent laweyers and give rise to suspicion that the guilty lawyers may escape punishment Will the law of the land prevail with judges taking sides! Will the injured get justice against the rowdy lawyers!!! Doubtful!!

DVS and BJP Govt has arrested 4 lawyers and Dinesh Poojary says this is the efficiency of BJP Govt. This prooves how efficient is BJP Govt to save its Goonda Lawyers my dear Dinesh Poojary. They could catch only 4 culprits that is too after so much pressure from Media persons and other people. Do you think that only 4 lawyers attacked media person and police. Why the police could not control this situation It is because Karnataka Police Officers hands are also tied by Govt.

Pistol is in police hand trigger is with BJP it can only be pressed with BJP's concent . But Govt will not do it because Govt only planned this drama. Karnatakaka is ruled by Goonda sarkar nothing more could be expected by this Govt. This shows the failure of DVS Govt.

It shows even “Lawyers” in Karnataka are not far behind when it comes to Goonda Giri. They might have learned the tricks from Congress or JDS Leaders how to organize street fighting. Media People always attack others with lethal weapons like “Writing” or “Live Telecast” and now they got taste of their own medicine with counter attacks from none other than “Lawyers” Let them file as many numbers of cases in Court, but finally they need Lawyers to defend them. So the proverb is “If you want to stay in water, make friendship with crocodiles too”

DVS lead BJP Govt has quickly captured 4 culprits and others will be in net soon. This shows efficiency of home ministry of Karnataka.

Some people are asking for CBI (congress bureau of Investigation) enquiry for this. If CBI enquiry is ordered, they will make false allegation on BJP Govt for sure. CBI should be banned in this country since it is controlled by Congress..
