Mangaluru: Dharma Jyothi Social Centre celebrates International Women’s Day

Mangaluru, Mar 10: The International Women’s Day celebration was organized under the joint auspices of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor, and the Regional Science Centre, Pilikula on March 8.

The programme was presided over by Dr Ashok K R, director of the Regional Science Centre, Pilikula. In his address, he explained the importance and role of women in daily life. The programme was inaugurated by Jaibunnisa, senior civil judge and member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru.

She spoke about women’s justice, rights, and legal protections. The chief guest of the programme, the president of Dharama Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor, Sr Leena V J, spoke about women’s empowerment and strength. N G Mohan, member of the District Level Authority Committee, conveyed his greetings and best wishes to all the women present.

Among the other guests, the resource person for the programme, Manasa Hegde, panel advocate of the District Legal Services Authority, Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru, gave a detailed talk about the prevention and prohibition of sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The Director of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Sr Veera Monis, welcomed all the dignitaries with her introductory remarks. Asha, president of Women Federation, proposed the vote of thanks. Jagannath compered the programme.

A total of 158 members of self-help groups participated in the programme.
