Ajman: Gulf Medical University Holds First-ever Career Counselor Meet

Ajman, Mar 5: More than 20 schools participated in the first-ever Career Counselor Meet, 2012 held by Gulf Medical University (GMU), one of the region's premier medical universities. The event was designed as a platform for the school counselors and representatives to meet and interact with the Career Counselors of GMU.

Prof Mohamed Arifulla, Dean of Admissions and Registers, GMU inaugurated the meet which was followed by a presentation of GMU and its activities by Vignesh Unadkat. The visiting Counselors and representatives from various institutions had a Q&A Session with Prof Manda Venkatramana, Dean, College of Medicine, GMU and Prof Arun Shirwaikar, Dean, College of Pharmacy, GMU for all the queries about the various programs GMU has on offer.

Dr Meenu Cherian, Assistant Director of Centre for Continuing Education and Community Outreach gave a short presentation on the various Short Term Courses GMU has to offer. Besides the 70 non, degree programs having part time, full time and a few online, all of which are less than one year duration on offer she highlighted the 25 new short term courses such as Dental Assistant Course, Physical Therapy, Medical Assistant, Clinical, Medical Assistant, Laboratory, Medical Assistant, Administration, ECG and Rhythm Interpretation, Medical Insurance Billing, Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing, Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition for Sports and Human Performance, Basic Surgical Skills, Nursing Assistant, Basic Arabic for Health Professionals etc. being offered at Gulf Medical University.

Later, the participants were actively involved in group activities aimed at introducing new counseling techniques for them to practice in their schools. The participants were accompanied on a tour of the university. Some of the Counselors who participated in the event urged GMU faculty to visit their schools to conduct lectures, workshops etc. relating to Career Counseling of the students.
