Bantwal, Mar 18: A memorandum was submitted to the Bantwal subdivision assistant superintendent of police (ASP) seeking the appointment of traffic police personnel to manage the increasing congestion at BC Road and Baddakatte.

The delegation was led by Vishwanath Chandthimar, president of the rickshaw drivers and owners union.

Concerns raised in the memorandum

According to the memorandum, severe traffic issues are being witnessed on National Highway 75, specifically in front of the private bus stand at BC Road and near the Mangaluru-bound bus stop close to Hotel Sanman. The constant movement and parking of buses and rickshaws in these high-density areas have made the stretch prone to frequent bottlenecks.

The union highlighted that the congestion is causing significant delays for emergency vehicles, particularly ambulances. Furthermore, pedestrians, including women, children, and school students, face extreme difficulty while crossing the road to reach the private bus stand.

Demand for personnel

To address these challenges, the union has requested the permanent stationing of one traffic sub-inspector (SI) and one police constable at BC Road to oversee traffic flow.

Additionally, the memorandum pointed out that Baddakatte Market is another high-traffic zone where vehicle density is causing public inconvenience. The union urged the department to appoint a traffic police official at Baddakatte as well to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety.

The officials have been requested to take immediate cognizance of the situation and deploy the necessary personnel to provide relief to the commuting public.
