Udupi, Mar 22: A new experiment in spiritual journey in the form of Biblical cinematic drama titled ‘Jesu Ani Bara Apostol’ (Jesus and Twelve Apostles) was presented in the premises of St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla (Shanerpura) on Saturday, March 21. This was a spiritual journey appropriate for the season of Lent through dramatization, singing and visual effects that kept the houseful audience in full attention and engaged throughout the presentation.
Prior to enactment of the Biblical cinematic drama, during a brief stage programme, the parish priest of St John the Evangelist Church, Fr Prakash Anil Castelino along with Fr Rolwin Fernandes, Fr Jesil Fernandes, Dn Shawn Savio Andrade, John Martis - vice president of the PPC, Anand Melwyn D’Souza - secretary, Anita D’Souza - convener of 20 Commissions, Anil D’Sa - organizer of the event, Maxim Pereira Angelore - director of the Biblical cinematic drama and Glany Fernandes - writer of the Biblical cinematic drama felicitated the actors by presenting them memento.

Introducing the Biblical cinematic drama, Maxim Pereira said that the first show of the Biblical cinematic drama was presented in Dubai and this was the second show and first in the twin dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi. He expressed gratitude to Fr Prakash Anil Castelino, the parish priest, Anil D’Sa and all those who made it possible for the presentation of the unique experiment in spiritual journey during the Lent in Pangla.
In his message Fr Prakash Anil Castelino expressed happiness at the large number of audiences that had assembled to watch and experience the Biblical cinematic drama. He said that such presentation would enrich the spiritual life of the parishioners especially during the season of Lent. He further said that the Pangla Church is the only church in the twin dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi which is dedicated to St John the Evangelist, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus.
The church choir of St John the Evangelist Parish presented devotional songs in Konkani and Kannada interspersed between the three acts of the Biblical cinematic drama. Anil D’Sa and Maxim Pereira also sang few hymns.
The Biblical cinematic drama ‘Jesu Ani Bara Apostol’ was presented in three acts. The role of Jesus was enacted by John Rodrigues. The twelve apostles were: Simon Peter-Alphonse Mendonsa, Andrew - Alwyn Peter D’Sa, Jacob (son of Jebedee) - Nishan Noronha, John (son of Jebedee) - Johncy Rodrigues, Philip-Clive D’Souza, Bartholomew-Noel D’Silva, Thomas-Peter Martis, Mathew- Jeevan Pereira, Jacob (son of Alpheus) - Melwyn D’Souza. Thaddeus-Canute Noronha, Simon the Zealot-Patrick D’Souza, Judas Iscariot-Rayan Rodrigues. All these actors belonged to Pangla parish. As the entire Biblical cinematic drama was pre-recorded, all the characters had to synchronize their dialogues and actions according to the pre-recorded script which they did very well after a long period of rehearsals.
The concept, direction and visualization of the presentation was by Maxim Pereira Angelore, Glany Fernandes wrote the story and screenplay, background music was provided by Joel Pereira, Fr Rolwin Fernandes compered the entire presentation, the keyboard was played by Wedson D’Souza and the entire show was coordinated by Anil D’Sa.
The background scenes and effective music as actors representing Jesus and Apostles put up their acts enhanced the impact of the Biblical cinematic drama. The choir sang relevant hymns in melodious tunes.
At the end of the presentation, Fr Prakash Anil Castelino felicitated Deacon Shawn Savio Andrade who has been serving in the parish prior to his being ordained a Deacon and will be proceeding to St Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle to take up his next ministry.
