Kashmiris donate cash, gold for Iran war victims

Daijiworld Media Network - Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 23: In a humanitarian gesture, people in parts of Kashmir have donated cash, gold and household items for relief efforts in war-hit Iran, officials said.

A day after Eid celebrations, youth in Shia-dominated areas carried out door-to-door collection drives on Sunday to gather aid for those affected by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Residents from various sections of society, including men, women and children, participated in the initiative. Women, in particular, contributed generously by donating gold jewellery, copper utensils and other valuables, while some families also offered livestock, officials said.

Children too joined the effort, donating their savings and pocket money as a mark of solidarity.

The collections were reported mainly from Budgam and Baramulla districts, which have a sizeable Shia population.

A resident of Rainawari, Aijaz Ahmad, said the devastation caused by the war warranted global humanitarian support, adding that contributing aid was the least that could be done for those suffering.

The donations are expected to be routed through official relief channels, including the Iranian Embassy, to ensure they reach the affected people.

Expressing gratitude, the Embassy of Iran in India thanked the people of Kashmir in posts on X, stating that their kindness and solidarity would “never be forgotten”.
