Bantwal: Group clash over mosque issue; three cases registered

Bantwal, Mar 24: A group clash reportedly broke out in connection with an issue related to a mosque at Talemogaru in Sajipapadu village of Ullal taluk, leaving several persons injured and hospitalised. In connection with the incident, three separate cases have been registered at the Bantwal Rural police station.

In the first case, based on a complaint filed by Abdul Nawaz (42), a resident of Sajipapadu, the incident occurred on the morning of March 22 when he and his relative Dawood were returning after visiting the Talemogaru mosque. Near a shop belonging to one Shoukat in a building associated with the mosque, the accused namely Shoukat, Ishaq, Shafiq, Yakoob, Mohammed Mustafa, Nasir and Nizal had allegedly gathered as a group. When Nawaz and Dawood reached the spot, the accused reportedly picked up a quarrel over the mosque issue, abused them, assaulted them with a knife and sticks, and issued death threats. Injured Nawaz and Dawood were admitted to Bantwal taluk government hospital. A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station in this regard.

In the second case, as per the complaint filed by Abdul Gaffoor (48), also a resident of Sajipapadu, the accused namely Yakoob, Shafiq, Ishaq, Safwan and Ashraf Saheb allegedly stopped him near the Talemogaru mosque, verbally abused him, assaulted him with an iron rod, and issued death threats. Gaffoor, who sustained injuries in the assault, has been admitted to Bantwal government hospital. A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station.

In the third case related to the same incident, Shoukat Ali (40), a resident of Sajipapadu, has alleged in his complaint that on the morning of March 22, while he was engaged in business at his shop near the Talemogaru mosque, the accused namely Dawood, Zubair, Saifuddin, Nawaz, Gaffoor, Shareef and Aashiq came to his shop, picked up a quarrel over the mosque issue, and assaulted his relative Rabiyath. It is further alleged that when Safana, Nizal, Ishaq and Ashraf intervened to stop the clash, they, along with Shoukat, were abused, and the accused attempted to attack them with a sword. During the incident, Ayesha, a relative who came to intervene, was also allegedly threatened with dire consequences. Based on this complaint, another case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station.

Police stated that the injured from both groups involved in the incident are currently undergoing treatment in hospital and none of them have sustained life-threatening injuries. Further legal action will be initiated after the injured are discharged from the hospital, police said.
