Ponting urges PBKS to focus on process ahead of IPL 2026

Chandigarh, Mar 24: Punjab Kings have begun preparations for the Indian Premier League 2026 season, with head coach Ricky Ponting delivering a strong message to the squad to stay focused on the process.

Addressing players at the training camp, Ponting emphasised the importance of physical, technical, and mental readiness ahead of their opening match against Gujarat Titans on March 31 in New Chandigarh.

Reflecting on last season, where PBKS finished runners-up, Ponting urged players to recall what made the team successful. Under captain Shreyas Iyer, the team fell just six runs short of their maiden title, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinching the trophy in Ahmedabad.

“We all make mistakes. That is fine. I will make mistakes, you will make mistakes. But as long as you stick to your game plan, mistakes are part of the game,” Ponting told the players.

He stressed that consistency in approach and clarity in execution would be key throughout the campaign.

Punjab Kings will look to build on last season’s strong performance as they aim to secure their first IPL title in the upcoming edition.
