Puttur, Mar 26: The Syro-Malabar Youth Movement (SMYM) of St Alphonsa Church, Nellyadi, has once again garnered media attention through another significant philanthropic endeavour. During the season of Easter—a solemn period commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ—the youth group shared a powerful message of humanity and true devotion. They achieved this by reconstructing the roof of a house belonging to an underprivileged family in Addahole village, situated on the border of Dakshina Kannada district.

This initiative serves as a clear reminder that devotion is not merely confined to the walls of a church or temple, but should also manifest as active service to those in need within society. This project marks a major milestone in community service, as it is the 20th house to be renovated or constructed under the leadership of Fr Shaji Mathew, the parish priest of the St Alphonsa Shrine.

The service work saw active participation from SMYM members including Sister Rosna, Sanusha, Thomas, Abhin, Dinu, Naveen, Nayan, Jaison, Joshua, Joshua Pulikkal, Joel, Shiju, Rovin, Ajith, Abhilash, and Jimmy from Addahole. The entire program was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Fr Rijo, Fr Jins, and Fr Shaji Mathew.

The project was made possible through the financial support and collaboration of several donors, including Tricity Rotary Cochin, Sibi Navoor of Premium Machineries (Mangaluru), Prashanth Bangadi of Supreme Steel (Mangaluru), Kiran Mala of Oriental Granite, Paul D’Souza of Nellyadi, and Shibi Vattathottam, among others.
