Mangaluru, Mar 26: In connection with the death of a female pedestrian who was hit by a private bus at Kottara Chowki in the city, the JMFC 8th court here has sentenced the vehicle driver to 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 6,000.
The convicted driver has been identified as Sharan Kumar (35), a resident of Padavinangady and driver of a private bus.
The incident had occurred on December 3, 2022, when Megha Ranjit Pai (34) was crossing the road from the Kallurti Daivasthana side towards Bhandary Hills Apartment at Kottara Chowki. At that time, a private bus heading towards Kottara Chowki hit her. Megha, who sustained severe head injuries, later succumbed at the hospital.

An FIR had been registered against bus driver Sharan Kumar at the Traffic West police station. Inspectors Jayananda and Krishnananda G Naik had conducted the investigation.
JMFC 8th court judge Fawaz P A sentenced the bus driver to 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000. The release stated that advocates Geetha Rai and Aaron D’Souza appeared for the prosecution, examined the witnesses, and presented arguments.
