Kuwait City, Mar 28: Authorities in Kuwait have urged companies to temporarily suspend outdoor work as unstable and potentially dangerous weather conditions sweep across the country, raising safety concerns for workers in open environments.

The advisory, issued on March 26 by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), calls on businesses involved in outdoor operations, including construction, delivery services and contracting firms, to halt work at external sites until conditions improve. Officials described the measure as precautionary and aimed at preventing workplace accidents.

Authorities warned of worsening weather patterns, including strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms, which could create hazardous conditions at worksites and significantly increase risks for labourers. Reduced visibility, slippery surfaces and sudden weather changes are among the key concerns highlighted.

PAM emphasised that ensuring a safe working environment must remain a top priority and urged companies to fully cooperate by rescheduling outdoor tasks and closely monitoring weather updates.

Officials also noted that such preventive measures are increasingly necessary as extreme and unpredictable weather events become more frequent across the Gulf region.

The move aligns with broader regional practices, where countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia enforce seasonal restrictions on outdoor labour during extreme conditions. In Kuwait, similar rules are typically implemented during peak summer months, but the latest advisory underscores the need for flexibility in response to sudden weather risks.

Authorities reiterated that worker safety must take precedence over operational timelines, urging both employers and workers to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary exposure during this period of instability.
