BITS Pilani student killed in motorcycle–tanker crash in Goa

Panaji, Mar 29: A 26-year-old student of BITS Pilani lost his life, while another was seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with an oil tanker in South Goa, police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Saturday around 5:15 pm near a junction at Upasnagar in the Zuari Nagar area. According to police, the tanker driver, Pedro Ivo Medeira (66), was heading towards Vasco and allegedly made a right turn without checking for oncoming traffic.

The motorcycle, ridden by Karan Narasimha Murthy, was travelling from the BITS Pilani campus towards Verna when it rammed into the rear left side of the tanker.

Murthy and his friend, Soham Adhikari (26), sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Murthy later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Adhikari is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, officials said.

Police have arrested the tanker driver in connection with the incident and later released him on bail. Investigations are ongoing.
