Illegal gambling den in Honda sparks outrage; residents warn of escalation

Valpoi, Mar 30: Tension is mounting in Honda village as an alleged illegal gambling den continues to operate openly, triggering fear and anger among local residents.

According to locals, the round-the-clock gambling activity has been ongoing for months, causing severe disturbance due to constant movement, noise, and late-night commotion. Residents say their repeated complaints to police have failed to yield any concrete action.

The alleged gambling hub, located close to the Honda police outpost, has raised serious concerns over enforcement. Locals claim that gamblers from across Goa — including Panaji, Mapusa, Pernem, Margao, and Ponda — frequent the spot, often arriving in high-end vehicles at night and leaving by morning.

Residents allege that local players keep the activity running during the day, effectively turning it into a 24-hour operation. Frequent quarrels and physical altercations among gamblers have further heightened fears of serious crimes.

Despite submitting a signed memorandum to the Valpoi Police Station, locals claim no action has been taken so far. Frustrated by the continued inaction, they have warned of escalating the matter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Residents have demanded immediate intervention to shut down the alleged illegal operation, cautioning that authorities must be held accountable if the situation worsens or leads to any major incident.
