Moodbidri, Apr 2: The religious ceremonies of the Kiriya Rathotsava and Bhagwan Mahaveer Swami Janma Kalyana were held with spiritual fervour at the historic Saavira Kambada Basadi here on Thursday, April 2.

The religious stage programme was inaugurated by Shambhav Kumar and Shrinath Ballal Kijanabettu Guttu, who lit the ceremonial lamp. The event was presided over by Swasthishree Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Punditacharyavarya Mahaswamiji of the Jain Math.

Delivering the benedictory address, the swamiji spoke about the life and scientific relevance of the teachings of Bhagwan Mahaveer. "Bhagwan Mahaveer renounced the comforts of his palace to seek the welfare of all. He taught humanity the path of yoga, meditation, and penance required to purify the mind and overcome internal weaknesses," he said.

The swamiji further noted that Mahaveer, a great figure of the 5th century BC, emphasised the importance of a vegetarian and 'Sattvic' diet, along with disciplined eating habits, to maintain physical and mental health.

Earlier, Patnashatty Sudesh, the administrative trustee, welcomed the gathering. Prominent figures including Sudish, Adarsh, Hemraj, Praveen Chandra, Pradeep Chandra, and Ranjan Povani were present on the occasion.

The programme commenced with a prayer song by Sudha Neeranki and Divya Veerendra. Following the formal function, the junior chariot festival of Bhagwan Chandraprabha Swami was held, and the 108 Kalasha Abhisheka ritual was performed with devotion.

Sanjayanth Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
