Berlin, Apr 3: Borussia Dortmund’s 2025-26 Bundesliga campaign ranks among their strongest statistically, but a poor record against top sides has dented their hopes of silverware this season.
Second-placed Dortmund have collected 61 points from 27 matches, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by nine points. Despite losing just twice all season—both defeats coming against Bayern—the team has struggled against stronger opposition.

Against the top eight sides in the Bundesliga standings, Dortmund have managed only two wins in nine matches, highlighting their inconsistency in crucial fixtures.
Their next challenge comes against third-placed VfB Stuttgart, a side that has had the upper hand in recent encounters under coach Sebastian Hoeness. Stuttgart have won five and drawn two of their last seven matches against Dortmund.
Dortmund coach Niko Kovac acknowledged the challenge ahead, praising Stuttgart’s development and warning his side would need to “stretch themselves” to secure a result.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich could be without star striker Harry Kane for their clash against SC Freiburg due to a minor ankle issue, with the club likely to prioritise their upcoming Champions League fixture.
One player to watch is Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav, who has been in prolific form with 23 goals and 13 assists across competitions this season.
With the title race intensifying, Dortmund will need improved performances against top-tier opponents if they are to mount a serious challenge in the closing stages of the season.
