Bengaluru, Apr 3: With the ongoing conflict in West Asia disrupting the global supply of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), residents in the city are increasingly turning to induction stoves as a viable alternative for domestic and commercial cooking.

In light of the rising demand, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has issued a set of comprehensive safety guidelines to ensure consumer safety and prevent electrical mishaps.

The advisory emphasises that consumers should look beyond the price tag and prioritize technical specifications and safety features before making a purchase.

Key BESCOM guidelines for induction stove users:

• Quality Certification: Consumers are urged to purchase only ISI-certified induction stoves. Appliances with a high energy efficiency rating (3-star or above) are recommended to manage power consumption effectively.

• Safety Features: It is advisable to opt for models equipped with automatic shut-off sensors and child-lock facilities to prevent accidental burns or fire hazards.

• Dedicated Power Socket: Due to the high power draw, induction stoves should be plugged into a dedicated high-load socket (15A or higher). Using standard light-point sockets may lead to overheating and short circuits.

• Wiring and Earthing: Residents must ensure that their home wiring is in good condition. BESCOM warns against using induction stoves in premises with faulty wiring or inadequate earthing systems.

• Standard Plugs: Consumers should strictly purchase stoves with a 3-pin plug to ensure proper grounding and reduce the risk of electric shocks.

As the city navigates the current energy challenges, BESCOM has requested the public to follow these preventive measures to ensure a safe transition to electric cooking.
