Iran claims downing of US aircraft, drones during rescue operation

Daijiworld Media Network - Tehran

Tehran, Apr 5: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it destroyed several “enemy flying objects” during a US mission to rescue a stranded airman in Iran, according to reports on Sunday.

The statement, carried by Tasnim news agency, said the action was part of a joint operation involving multiple Iranian forces, including aerospace and ground units, Basij forces and police command.

Iranian authorities also claimed that a C-130 Hercules aircraft was downed in southern Isfahan, along with two Black Hawk helicopters.

The spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the aircraft were targeted during the operation, though there was no immediate confirmation from the United States.

Earlier, Iran’s army had also claimed to have shot down an Israeli drone in the same region.

The claims come amid heightened military tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, following recent cross-border operations and escalating conflict in the region.
