Sullia: Police arrest Andhra native for theft of mosque collection box

Sullia, Apr 7: The Sullia police have successfully apprehended a man in connection with the theft of a collection box (kanike dabbi) from a mosque premises in Goonadka, Sampaje.

The incident occurred on March 30, 2024, within the jurisdiction of the Sullia police station. Following the theft, a case was registered under Crime No. 45/2024, invoking Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Acting on specific leads, the police team tracked down the accused on April 6 at Elimale in Kemraje, Sullia. The arrested person has been identified as Mohammed Salman (35), a resident of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

During the investigation, the police recovered Rs 2,000 in cash, which was reportedly stolen from the collection box. The accused was produced before the Sullia court, which has remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
