Mirzapur, Apr 11: A senior lawyer was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district on Saturday morning after two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle attacked him during his morning walk.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old senior advocate Rajiv Singh, was approached by the two men while he was out walking. CCTV footage of the incident shows one of the attackers getting down from the bike and firing at Singh using a crude pistol, killing him on the spot.

However, moments after the attack, panic unfolded as the assailants struggled to escape when their motorcycle reportedly failed to start. The video shows one of the men repeatedly kicking the bike’s pedal while the other pointed a weapon at approaching bystanders, forcing them to retreat.

After several tense minutes, the motorcycle eventually started, and the duo fled the scene.

Police said hundreds of people gathered at the spot soon after the incident. Investigations are underway to identify and trace the attackers.

Authorities also noted that the victim had previously submitted an application expressing fear of an attack and had earlier survived two assaults. He was also a former village head, officials said.
