Racism Rising at the Workplace in Italy

Rome, Mar 9 (IANS/AKI): Racism was increasing in Italy, particularly at the workplace, according to a new government report.

The report by the National Office Against Racial Discrimination was presented Thursday to parliament.

It said central Italy -- where Rome and Florence are the biggest cities -- had the highest number of cases of discrimination, with more than 32 percent of the total.

A right-wing extremist in December shot dead two African street vendors and wounded three others that prompted the UN to monitor the country.

The country last year was also named in a Council of Europe report over racism directed at immigrants.
