Udupi: Scooter from wrong side crashes into goods vehicle; rider dead

Udupi, Apr 20: A 63-year-old scooter rider lost his life after his vehicle, coming from the wrong side, collided with a goods vehicle near Naralthaya Gudi at Ermalu on the Udupi–Mangaluru National Highway on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Gururaj Rao (63), a resident of Vakilar Thota, Adamaru. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

The driver of the goods vehicle, Vijay Kamath from Mangaluru, sustained critical injuries in the accident and has been admitted to a private hospital in Udupi. According to the public, he suffered severe head injuries with part of the brain exposed, and one of his hands was completely crushed and severed into two to three pieces, which was noticed later.

Due to the impact of the collision, the goods vehicle overturned and fell by the roadside. It was only after locals lifted the vehicle that they found the driver unconscious inside. The body of the deceased Gururaj Rao was thrown some distance away at the time of the accident.

Padubidri PSI Anil Kumar (Crime) and his team rushed to the spot along with members of the public and assisted in shifting the injured to the hospital.

The body of the deceased has been kept at the mortuary of the government Ajjarkadu hospital in Udupi.

    Wrong side driving is a bane in our country. People riding/driving on the wrong side endanger the lives of the people following the right track and punish them for no fault of theirs. May the goods carrier driver recover soon.

    How come so much injuries? Look like one of them was going at very high speed of scooter driver was thrown some distance away from scooter. Not sure if scooter driver was wearing helmet. Maybe urgent call. Everyone is in hurry nowadays, to go to HEAVEN or hell? Haste makes waste.

    Am shocked knowing how the situation of goods drivers injuries and his life.Really Pity.Whose fault and who has to suffer and if survive ,life will be very difficult.May God give him all the strenght to bear his pains and situation.Thatsall at the moment.
